Crane Operator Killed By Shock At Wood Plant
SWEETWATER Tenn June 1 John David Grindstaff 22 died of electric shock Monday while aiding a crane operator at a wood preserving plant when the crane touched a 13 000 volt line. The crane operator escaped injury. In Lansing Michigan a 40 cent gas tax hike was proposed as part of a 35 million highway expansion plan with fuel tax rising to 6 cents a gallon.

Bishop Short Opens Methodist Meeting In Chattanooga
In Chattanooga on June 1 Bishop Roy H. Short of Nashville opened the Holston Conference five day meeting. About 1,000 delegates began organizing and later today will elect minister and lay delegates for the Jurisdictional Conference at Lake Junaluska in July 1956 and the General Conference in Minneapolis next April. The Rev D Trigg Jaimes said more than 700000 of the 1016500 pledged for college development had been paid to the treasurer and distributed to Emory and Henry Tennessee Wesleyan and Hiwassee colleges. The church spent 3941300 for new construction and financed 17 projects in the past year.
