Ex Union Soldier Taken To Hospital

Hawkins Honors War Dead With New Memorial Plaque

Rogersville May 30 families gathered as 137 local service members from Hawkins County were honored with a bronze Memorial Room plaque at American Legion Post 21. Post Commander J Edward Hyder read the names from World War I II and Korea as leaders and veterans in Legion uniforms laid the plaque. Mrs Henry Acuff presided at a wreath ceremony while participants wore red, honoring the fallen and the country’s global service.

A Houston six year old girl Linda Koelle daughter of A T Koelle jr contracted paralytic polio after receiving the Salk vaccine. She is reported as getting along but the third paralytic case in area following vaccine. The eight previous cases were nonparalytic.

Robbery Suspect Has Extra Fingers and Toes Found

Oklahoma City police puzzled by a theft suspect with extra digits. Officer Mark Higgs fingerprinted 54 year old Oran Telford and discovered six fingers on each hand. The suspect claimed he had six toes on each foot, which he demonstrated by removing his shoes.

107-Year-Old Veteran Receives Crestview Diploma

William A. Lundy, the 107 year old veteran, receives a Crestview High School diploma alongside 58 other seniors including the last surviving Confederate veteran and four veterans. His relatives plan to frame the diploma and hang it on his wall today as he jokes about being honored in school.
