Democrats Name Township Ticket at Millcreek Meeting

Ninety four Democrats in Millcreek held a mass convention at Yeddo naming a full township ticket with no opposition for most posts. Trustee vote 64 for Pithoud and 30 for Howrey. Howrey motioned to make Pithoud's nomination unanimous. Carl Jones lost to 34 for 59 for assessor. Meeting presided by Geo R Norris with Virgil Sanders as secretary. ballots used and the gathering described as harmonious.

Troy Republicans Name Ticket

The Troy township Republicans met in Covington and nominated a full township slate. Trustee nominee Rolland Luke, a farmer living east of the city, is named along with assessor James Parrett. Notable locals were chosen for the advisory board and other township offices.

Mortgaged property case leads to arrest of Tom Pritchard

Fulton township resident Tom Pritchard was arrested by Sheriff Van Martin on a warrant accusing him of disposing of mortgaged property. After a preliminary hearing before Esquire Asa Osborn he was held on $300 bail to await the coming term of court.

Kingman Crowds Attend Closing Band Concert Night

Large Kingman crowd packed the closing band concert and moving picture show last Saturday. The night was ideal and attendees enjoyed a jolly atmosphere. A tax notice typo corrected to 34.90 cents after earlier error. Byron Grismore and daughters visited Omar Drake in Attica with Dorothy DeVerter arriving to spend days with relatives. Clay Heath traveled from Marshall Tuesday to visit his brother Warren and family.

C. & E. I. to Change Brazil Division Operations

The C and E I railway plans changes to its Brazil division likely within days. One passenger crew may be removed with remaining crews running Brazil to Momence daily, delaying the evening train and nudging the morning train earlier. The move aims to cut costs as the line, now under receivership, reduces coal output, parcel post competition hurts express business, and autos erode short-distance passenger traffic.

Seventeen Hundred Gall Stones Case Shocked Medical World

William Parish of the town area underwent gall stone surgery last Thursday at the Methodist hospital in Indianapolis. The operation removed stones described as ranging from mustard seed to a grain of corn, a number claimed to be seventeen hundred, verified as true and noted as historically remarkable. Parish is reported to be recovering well.

Obituary for Sarah J Sowers of Crawfordsville Ind

Sarah J Sowers daughter of Albert and Mary Squire was born December 23 1857 in Putnam County Indiana. She died September 16 1914 at age 56 at her home in Crawfordsville after a long illness. She joined the Christian church as a girl and later the New Light church then the Friends church at Kingman. She married James Cotton in 1877 who died in 1879 and then James W Sowers in 1883, leaving three sons Gilford Manson Earl and Everett with Gilford Manson dying in 1876 at age two. The remaining sons and her husband mourn her loss. Funeral services were held Friday at the Friends church in Kingman conducted by Revs J M McHargue and Albert Bardin and she was buried in Harveysburg cemetery.

Grover Crowder son of Mr and Mrs John Crowder of near Hillsboro and Miss Bessie Davidson daughter of Mr and Mrs Howard Davidson of Wallace surprised friends by marrying Sunday at the United Brethren parsonage in Marshall. Rev Shriggley officiated at 3 o clock. Both have ties to Hillsboro High School and Wabash. They returned to the Crowder home to begin married life as friends extend best wishes.

The Needleworkers gathered Wednesday afternoon at Mrs. R. B. VanDuyn’s residence with all members and three guests Mrs. E. M. Landon of Chicago Mrs. J. T. Liberty township events and community changes noted

In Liberty township a band concert drew many residents to Kingman. Local life includes attendance at Western Yearly Meeting in Plainfield, property sales by Lewis McMasters, silo building among farmers, and moves by the Pickard and Young families. A steady stream of visits, sermons, and local travel marked the week.

Birthday party and political campaign visit in Kingman

Wednesday marked little Miss Glenn Cory’s third birthday with a party including Aliene Moore Vera Trinkle Lela Barker Charlotte Graves Martha Cowgill Elenor and Myrtle Copeland Edward Spencer and Francis Cory. County Chairman Sanders attended with about twenty Democratic candidates and party friends to open their Kingman campaign with a dinner at the Dickens hotel and extensive handshaking. Also noted was Mrs Henry Watson of Newport formerly Miss Hollis Richardson of Tangier who underwent a successful operation at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and is recovering. Mrs Wm Nolen and her children of Attica visited relatives for a few days.
