At a Kingman Star office meeting, locals plan to organize a largely new band. About 22 pledged to participate. An open invitation remains for new members to join and help build a strong group. A Friday meeting urged participation to form the best band in Fountain County.
Ralph Sowers writes from Cananea Sonora Sept 7 praising Mexico’s beauty, resources, and potential. He notes misperceptions abroad, observes forests valleys mines and climate, and foresees modern enterprise elevating the republic toward a leading global position. He commends the Star and sends regards to Hoosier friends.
After Wallace branch closure local citizens organized a Farmers Bank of Wallace with 10000 capital. Jackson township’s leading residents form the first board: A B Lowe M A L Krout E W Bever J J Williams W B Myers A B Grimes H H Clore. A R Lowe elected president J E Fine cashier. The former branch furniture and safe are used with a Victor screw door triple time lock.
Enrollment across Millcreek township schools totals 507 with Day 18 in District 13 and Kingman leading at 219 in District 4. Expects records to fall this coming school year as teachers report strong interest.
A special panel of 40 men, plus the regular jury and 40 to 50 witnesses, was summoned to select a jury for Manford Lawson charged with burning Charles Carter’s barn in Sugar Creek township on May 26. By 11:30, attorneys had not decided if the case would proceed to trial. The case is one of the term’s noted and will be sharply contested.
