John Gillum died at his Harveysburg farm after a long illness in his 70th year. Survived by wife, daughter Mrs. Elmer Atward, and son Leslie, all at his bedside. A Civil War veteran of Company I, 31st Indiana Vol, he endured a severe Ft Donaldson wound and years of pain with iron fortitude. Funeral from home at 2 pm tomorrow, burial in Harveysburg cemetery.

Penny Social a Success at Sun Day School Event
The Penny Social at the opera house by the wm. E. Sunday school drew a sold out crowd last Saturday. Ira Duncan ran the picture gallery with notable artistry while S. D. Alexander handled the penny weighing scales. Prof. H. E. Redding showed speed as a stenographer sending telegrams. The event, with multiple features, left the Sunday school with a $2003 Christmas fund after expenses.

A reunion at William and T. S. Ross home welcomed Frank Ross and wife from Palo Alto California and Robert Ross from Wichita Kansas. The three brothers served three years in the Civil War and aged 75, 70, 67, and 62 respectively. Frank and wife plan to return to California soon with fond memories of their shared upbringing. Small Blaze Briefly Sparks Fire at Rowlett Home
Early Monday morning at about seven o clock a chimney fire broke out in the kitchen of M P Rowlett’s home. A bucket brigade quickly extinguished the flames with little damage to the building and Rowlett expressed gratitude to the helpers.
