The writer extends thanks to many friends for kindness and loyalty from start to finish. Public thanks are given to Mr. Hudler for a valuable present and for fair conduct and honesty throughout the contest.
The Star announces Miss Eva Sowers as winner of a $400 Starck piano with 526,675 votes, beating Miss Lenore Spencer who garnered 457,625. The contest drew 350 new subscribers, boosting circulation to over 1,000. Grace Myers withdrew Saturday afternoon. The article lauds fair campaigning, honors all parties, and praises Oscar Spencer for his sportsmanlike conduct.
The organizers praise contestants and supporters for a square campaign with no hostility. They note equal opportunity and no favoritism, affirming a clean process. Miss Julia Mitchell a 14 year old girl claimed she was put off a C and E S train at Stone Bluff while holding a ticket to Deal Bluff. She was awarded 400 dollars damages plus 10 dollars per mile for the journey and 50 dollars for nerves. The court noted she passed Kingman last July en route to Coal Bluff to visit a sick sister and spent the night near the railroad track south of Tangier.
The Ladies of the Christian church present A Commanding Position a humorous play on Saturday evening December 2 at Alexander's opera house. A box supper accompanies the event and admission is 10 cents at the door. Program details to follow next week.
The Star will be issued Thursday morning next week as editor and wife plan to spend Thanksgiving out of town.
D M Strader traveled to Crawfordsville on Wednesday to visit his wife at Culver hospital. Mrs Strader plans to return home later this week.
Charles A. Greathouse, state superintendent of public instruction, says townships can be held financially responsible if trustees fail to provide proper school transportation. He notes many routes force six or seven year olds to travel early and long distances, risking sickness. Millcreek township reportedly adequately serves its pupils.
Mrs. Lawrence Bowsher underwent a critical operation Wednesday afternoon after enduring intense suffering. The procedure was a last hope and, at the latest report, she was doing exceedingly well, a relief to her many friends.
Rosetta Wright petitions Judge Schoonover to grant a divorce from J M Wright in a case assigned for trial December 5. Both parties are well known in the area and have lived here at different times for several years.
The state vs Charles Foxworthy for the murder of Mitchell Kiger of Danville will be tried on December 19. Both sides are pushing hard to prove their narratives and unexpected evidence is expected to emerge during the hearing.

Edmond B Ratcliff is mourned as a four square, devoted farmer whose life centered on family and service. He died of a hemorrhage at his home near Millcreek after finishing a barn project. Funeral services were held Monday at 10 a m with burial in Harveysburg cemetery.
Edmond B Ratcliff born August 16 1867 died November 17 1911 aged 44 years 3 months and 1 day. He lived his entire life on the family farm and married Mary D Eshlin on August 12 1906. They had three children Ross Ralph and Dorris. Surviving relatives include his mother three sisters and a loving wife and children. He joined Pleasant Grove Christian church on wedding eve and long served as a faithful churchman and Sunday school worker. His singing and prayers expressed his deep faith in God and community respect for his strength of mind and character. He was considered one of the community’s best men.
The Ladies of the Methodist church announce a market on Wednesday November 10 in the former Hepler Hardware room. They offer a variety of edible goods for Thanksgiving and will sell a few aprons. Donations to aid the effort are gratefully welcomed.
A Tuesday gathering of friends and neighbors near Harveysburg chopped enough wood for Mrs. Liota Thomas to last most of the winter. She thanks all who participated.
Mrs Effie Moore and her daughter Edna along with Mrs John Neal spent a day shopping and visiting in Attica yesterday, sharing time with local acquaintances.
