The Gleaners Society of Marshall gathered Saturday at the Ewbank home in Kingman Heights despite bad weather. Mrs Ettie Hutton hosted a meal and the group enjoyed music by local artists, readings by members, and an enthusiastic solo by Mrs Rena Ratcliffe, with many society members listed as attendees.

Trio Sentenced After Robbery Conviction
Saturday afternoon Robert Hughey and his son Zaney Hughey along with Ham Hays were convicted of robbing John Hathaway. The elder Hughey and Zaney received 10 to 20 years in Michigan City State Prison. Hays, 29, got a five year term and will be confined in the Indiana Reformatory at Jeffersonville. Deputy sheriffs transported the Hugheys to Michigan City. Hays to be sent to the southern prison later this week. Hughey claimed he buried over 600 dollars near Pendleton County Kentucky and offered to help locate it, saying it was his money not Hathaway’s. He is in frail health at age 78 and likely to spend remaining years behind bars.

Vandals Damage Mil Creek Saw Mill in Mil Creek Township
A Covington Friend report says unknown persons damaged the saw mill owned by J. M. Daugherty and run by Aaron Walton east of the old settlers grounds. They destroyed oil cups gauges machinery engines saws belting and took axes and other tools, leaving costly destruction and no clear suspect.

Sues to Set Aside Deed in Parke County Suit
James W. Ratcliff files suit in Parke County to invalidate a six year old deed by Miles A. Ratcliff. The deed moved 200 acres in Fountain County and 65 in Parke County to second children. Teenager Made Suicide Attempt In Covington Barn
Mack Smith, about 17, attempted suicide at nine pm Saturday by taking carbolic acid at Simm's feed barn in Covington. Workers found him writhing in agony. a doctor was called and gave relief. He had not swallowed much of the liquid but his lips and mouth were badly burned.
