Canning Factory in Cayuga Destroyed by Fire
A destructive fire in Cayuga swept through a canning factory early Monday, destroying the plant machinery and almost the entire season’s pack of peas after one week of operation. About 350 acres of peas remained unharvested and will be lost. three hundred fifty workers had been at the site. The blaze started in the vines, lightning suspected by many, night watchman sounded alarms but firemen could not save the building. Some portions, including the wave room, were saved. Insurance coverage was limited relative to the heavy loss.
