Kingman Horse Show Draws Big Turnout Despite Rain

Kingman hosted its second horse show with a large Thursday crowd after a Wednesday rain. Judge Wm. Peare of Gary Indiana presided while the Kingman band provided music. Cash premiums were paid in full, debts settled, and a baby show drew several participants with Mary Katherine Marks and Dorine Harvey placing first and second. Class winners covered draft stallions to miscellaneous pony events with scores and various exhibitors including T. M. Jackson, Jas Marks, Eden Gose, and J. Metsker & Son.

Seconde Concert a Success. Kingman band followed a rain ruined first concert with a Saturday show that drew more townspeople than all prior summer Saturdays. The balmy night and State street crowd made passage difficult for vehicles. another concert is planned for tomorrow with a larger expected turnout.

Father and Son Badly Hurt in Farm Runaway

Thomas J. Blackford and his eight year old son Cletis were seriously injured when a hog startled horses, sending the team into a stream. The father suffered severe leg and arm injuries, and the boy lost eight teeth and part of his jaw. a younger brother helped keep him alive until help arrived. Doctors expect both will recover unless complications arise.

Last Sunday a party was given for Master Robert Cuthbert turning five. Twenty two little guests attended and enjoyed a pleasant afternoon with light refreshments and merry amusement.

Fred Machledt Weds Miss Magaret Mankins in Simple Montezuma Ceremony

Mrs Lizzie Reese returned from Montezuma after attending the wedding of her nephew Fred Machledt to Miss Magaret Mankins held Thursday evening in a modest home prepared for the event. Groom brother Harry Machbledt acted as witness and Miss Mable Evert served as maid of honor. The ceremony drew only close relatives with a home decorated in white and pink roses. Machledt, a former employee at a Montezuma brick plant, is well known locally with many friends sending best wishes.

Ladies Aid Society Picnic at Bruner Home West of Wallace

The Ladies of the Prairie Chapel and Wallace Aid Societies gathered at the Bruner home near Wallace for a June picnic. Attendees arrived by auto and buggy, with noon meals served on the lawn featuring fried chicken and strawberry shortcake. After meals each society held brief meetings and socialized before departing, thanking the Brunners for their hospitality.

Operation a Success Miss Genevieve Bove Improves

Miss Genevieve Bove daughter of Mr and Mrs E S Bove underwent an appendicitis operation last Friday at 9 oclock at Augustana hospital in Chicago. The operation was a success and she rallied soon after the surgery. She rested, grew weak, and did not take nourishment until Tuesday morning when a small amount of water was allowed and she was reported to be gaining rapidly.

Death of Parke County matriarch Charlotte Armstrong

Aunt Charlotte Armstrong 84 long a Parke County resident died at the home of Mr and Mrs Fred Haworth near Tangier Wednesday morning after years of feeble health. A community figure she will be missed. Funeral held at Fairview church at 10 o clock this morning.

Contempt Charge Linked To Wright Divorce Case

Martin Wright formerly of Kingman now in Earl Park livery business was arraigned for contempt after allegedly violating a restraining order by moving his wife’s car from Kingman to Earl Park. Judge Schoonover adjourned the case pending disposition of the ongoing Montgomery circuit court divorce action, with Crawfordsville considered for venue.

Aviation Day at Attica Promises Return Visit

Attica merchants plan a follow up Aviation Day for Wednesday June 26, hoping to replicate last year’s success. Willard narrowly escaped death when his aircraft broke during the previous display, maring the program. The Curtiss Exhibition Co of Chicago will supply the aviator, with special trains run to bring in a large crowd.

Mark Whicker reports a Sunday attack by a suspected rabid cat on his farm east of Attica. The animal sprang at his right hand causing deep bites and scratches, and neighbors say the cat had earlier been bitten by a mad dog.
