L R Jessup president of Jessup Nevins and Co plans a large elevator at the flour mill site. Gravel hauling began Wednesday and basement work starts immediately. The flour mill will be remodeled and share a roof with the new elevator, with rapid completion to meet market crop readiness.
The first band concert of the season will be given from the veranda of the Kingman Hotel tomorrow night by the Kingman band. Merchants have generously subscribed funds to cover weekly concerts and the band is urged to start promptly with all players in their chairs for good crowds in Kingman Saturday nights.
Bert Hamman and Fred Parret traveled to Bloomington Indiana where Mr Hamman wed Miss Dot Lockhard on Wednesday evening June 2 at the bride’s uncle W A Rector home.
The hotel barber shop has been blessed with a new wallpaper that greatly enhances the shop’s appearance. The newly installed design is described as very handsome and the improvement is noted as wonderful.
Millcreek township will host one of its largest common school commencements on Thursday evening June 20 at Centennial church. Trustee Massey oversees arrangements for the event with 38 graduates speaking. Fountain county trustees met at the courthouse to vote for county superintendent. Final results show Livengood receiving the majority on the second ballot, with Wilkinson and McGannon also named as contenders. Livengood assumes duties immediately to advance local schools.
John G. Heath of Greenfield was here the first of the week on business and shaking hands with old acquaintances.
A June 1907 Oklahoma City Star letter from Chandler notes a backward spring harming oats and crops, cotton needing warm weather, and prospects for peaches apples pears plums and berries. It describes land prices rising, telephones and mail service improving, and local temperance progress with prohibition hopes amid flood of farm anecdotes.
A letter from Mrs. John W. Deere describes a mule bonded to its mother by the jingling bell. The farmer removed the bell for a trip, and the mule refused to follow, prompting the farmer to replace the bell and drive to town. The correspondent signs off as Mrs. John W. Deere.
Marion Harrison and Manson Lawson were arrested on charges of burning Charles Carter's barn in Sugar Creek. Lawson waived a preliminary hearing and posted $1000 bond by Geo. Harrison. Marion Harrison was bound over to Circuit Court in $1000 bond and jailed after failing to meet the bail. The case drew strong local interest per the Rockville Republican.
The Crawfordsville Journal notes a classic Meharry's Grove Fourth of July program with principal speaker Dr. George L. Mackintosh president of Wa bash College. Rev. Paul Stafford and Indiana Law School top graduate Andrew Foley will also speak among others in a daylong observance.
Special meeting of Kingman Lodge No. 314 FP and AM to be held Tuesday evening June 11. Work planned in the Master Mason degree. W M A H Lindley and S M Ratcliff, Secretary, will officiate.
