Mrs Ellen McGinnis a Covington resident died from a morning house fire believed to have started when bed clothing ignited during a smoke in bed. She left a husband William McGinnis, son Walter 28, and daughter 21 as mourners.
Rockville voters backed the dry side in Adams township with a 213 vote majority as 849 ballots were cast in the local option election. The tally contrasted with the 903 presidential votes from last November and the quiet turnout prompted church bells and flags to mark the day as pro saloon sentiment waned.
Jacob Shaw and Nora Rice wed in Coyington last Friday by Justice Slimm. The bride recently obtained a divorce from Robert Rice and the couple plan to set up housekeeping soon in the Bend area north of Coyington where the groom works on a farm.
Chas. Rozell arrived from near Winthrop and stayed overnight with Mr. and Mrs. B. O. Hudler, joining local residents for a short visit.
Mr and Mrs Harley Townsley are noted as visiting relatives in Danville Illinois over Sunday during a family trip.
The state charged Dora Simmons and Stanley Younger with stealing a lap robe from Earl Jones's buggy at Yeddo on December 7 last year. Younger was tried without a jury after a limited defense. he received 1 to 8 years in the Jeffersonville reformatory. Simmons' trial is scheduled for April 3, with a request for a jury trial.
Miss Anna Walters daughter of Mr and Mrs Chas Walters married Chas Eigler at the Walters country home south of Covington. Rev R V Johnson presided before twenty family members. A wedding breakfast followed and the couple left for Indianapolis on the noon train. They plan to housekeep on the Elmer Lease farm east of Covington.
Miss Carrie Moore wed Osborn Wilson on Thursday of last week in Watseka. The bride, youngest daughter of Mrs. Effie Moore, has spent most of her life here and is well known. The groom is from Watseka, and they will begin life in the home once occupied by the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Moore, whose furnishings they purchased. Congratulations are extended as they start their married life.
Mr and Mrs E R Guilford arrived from Westfield Massachusetts for a short visit with relatives. Afterward they will likely reside in Danville AS. The Ladies Aid of the Christian church will meet with Mrs Thos Glascock Jr on Wednesday March 5.
Thomas Hill a 54 year old Black resident of Bloomingdale died when his residence burned Monday night. Fire was discovered by Edward Osborn but the blaze was too advanced to allow rescue. An oil lamp explosion is suspected as the cause. Hill kept a lamp lit at night. valuables survived in the ashes. The house and nearby buildings were destroyed. Coroner Dr. Collings attended, with the remains buried in Friends cemetery beside his wife. He left a brother in Kentucky and a niece, Mrs. Madge Johnson, in Bloomington. He belonged to the colored Masonic order of Rockville and I O O F Crawfordsville.
The Friends church revival continues with rising interest and many confessions and admissions this week. Attendance is strong with several turned away for lack of space. Local visits include Bluffton residents M and Mrs John Kimmer with Prof H E Redding family.
G L Cory’s drug store unveils a marble and German silver soda fountain described as a standout beauty. The 10 foot front features Italian marble with a two foot high draft stand, glass bowl for goldfish, eight fruit jars, two can sinks, iceless cooling system, and German silver work table. The unit includes sanitary features to prevent contamination and a back bar display, with total cost reaching $1000.
E M Cox and family and guests from J G Eberle and Roy Eberle families gathered at Robi Turner home for music and a big noon dinner. Ira Duncan sold a 200 acre farm southeast of town to Charles Best for 2200 with hardware stock in Homer, Nebraska. Mrs Walter Robinson hosted Needleworkers Club with 23 present including two absent. Adam Bone Brake's relatives marked his 63rd birthday with a large dinner. Charles Dillon and Logan Dillon drove to Indianapolis with live stock. Cora Williamson of Indianapolis visited relatives this week. McCord and Millikan announce hay market readiness.
On February 17 1913 at 8 30 P M Leon Marks Woody youngest son of O P Woody married Beatrice Marie Wilkes only daughter of Lewis Wilkes at the groom home on North Bismark Ave Indianapolis Rev Hixon of the M E church performed the ceremony with a phonograph wedding march. Guests included family friends and out of town relatives with a late evening reception and gifts.

A correction note states an error in last week’s announcement for the Christian Endeavor “Trip Around the World” event. The date should read the 17th instead of the 7th. Further explanation will follow.
Kingman Hardware Co displays dry batteries in the east window and invites customers to guess the weight of a master battery on display. The Columbia battery is praised as the best used. The big battery’s diameter is 10 inches and height 24 inches. weight guessing requested.
Cornelia E Lewis Dorton Osborn born May 2 1835 Chatam County North Carolina died February 21 1913 aged 77 years 9 months 19 days. Survived by son John Osborn and sister Ellen Kirksey and brother James Osborn. married Alfred Dorton 1858 then Samuel Osborn 1871. Funeral services held at Bethel conducted by Rev A J Marshall.

Chas Bodine and wife and Mrs Carrie Hersbarger with daughters traveled from Danville and Johnson City to attend Aunt Polly Mahen's funeral near Yedda. She died after a few weeks illness from bronchial pneumonia. Rev John Newman conducted services and she was buried in Harveysburg cemetery.
