Book Shower at Kingman Library a Grand Success

Hundreds visit the handsome Kingman Library structure for a first public use book shower that collected 780 volumes despite bad weather. Luncheons raised 26 dollars, with an evening program praised by attendees, and plans to open the library for public use two afternoons and two evenings weekly.

Death and village news in Liberty township and Tangier

Mrs. Chloe Harvey died Thursday morning after a two year struggle with consumption. Her funeral was Sunday at the Friends church in Tangier. George Canan died Friday at his Sylvania home. Wallce Musson sold property and plans to move east of Kingman. The Sylvania Store added groceries and bargains. Dora Lindley visited home folks then returned to the State University.

Obituary of George Cannan Veteran of two Civil War terms

George Cannan born February 18, 1843 in Langsville Ohio died February 19, 1915 in Sylvania Indiana aged 72 years. He served in the seventy eighth Indiana regiment and re enlisted in the one hundred fifteen th Indiana regiment. He married Martha J Williamson in 1869 and lived in Parke County most of his life. Survived by wife Martha and two daughters Evalena Lindley and Jennie B Rolf. Funeral at Rush Creek church conducted by Rev Orley Smith and interment at Rush Creek cemetery.

Man Recovers From Arm Injury Visits Town

Owen Hixon, whose left arm was badly mangled in a well digging machine about a month ago, was in town Tuesday for the first time since the accident. F. R. Jones was in Crawfordsville Monday.

Will It Pay to Raise Spring Wheat in Indiana

The Experiment Station reports several factors for growing spring wheat in Indiana noting high wheat prices could justify the crop. Yields over five years show spring wheat about 11.7 bushels per acre versus oats 37.9 and winter wheat 27.4 on the same land, with long-term oats around 50 and winter wheat around 28 bushels.

Solomon Robbins Dies by Own Action at Grange Corner Barn

Solomon Robbins aged 53, of the old Dan Heath farm south of Grange Corner, was found hanging in the barn at his home about 11 o'clock Monday forenoon. Despondency from ill health was given as the cause. Coroner Collings of Rockville arrived and certified the death. Robbins leaves an aged mother two sons and six brothers, with one brother Andy Robbins living with him.

M. E. Ladies Aid Hosts Washington Birthday Meeting

The M. E. Ladies Aid met at the Duncan home with Estel Duncan Beatrice Fisher Hazel Bennett and Myra Ford organizing the program in honor of Washingtons birthday. A Washington biography readings and music followed a business session. Forty three members attended three new members joined the enrollment total fifty. The next meeting is March 11 at Mrs Mark Inlows home.
