Dr. J. N. Hurty, secretary of the State Board of Health, urged cattle owners to slaughter dogs bit cattle and convert them into beef while safe. He defended the plan after a San Pierre case, saying mad dog infection takes about twenty one days to develop and microbes need ten days to reproduce. He advised either immediate butcher or thirty day quarantine to watch outcomes.
