Hazel Mildred Abernathy six weeks old died about 5 am last Thursday Feb 15 after a week long illness starting with diphtheria and followed by pneumonia. Parents Fred and Mrs Abernathy quarantined at home handled burial with C M Spencer in Snoddy cemetery with no funeral service.

An Indiana state study shows woodlots underperforming, with 4 million acres producing only half a potential crop. Recommendations include fencing to exclude grazing, planting open areas, cutting low-value trees for replacements, and favoring White Ash Yellow Poplar and Black Walnut along with Oaks and Hickories. The State Board of Forestry offers free guidance books.
Mr and Mrs J G Gordon Mrs Martha Bales and son Guy returned from California visiting relatives. They met John T Carter now in Texas. Lonnie Keller and family near Ridgefarm Ill visited relatives here. Keller formerly ran a livery barn. Ira Duncan contemplates a portrait but delays until he adds more. John Tinsley of Hillsboro broke a wrist after a 15 foot fall from a house he was working on. Democratic Chairman Frank McCaughtry came from Attica to survey political fences.
A severe snow storm and blizzard raged Tuesday night into Wednesday with large drifts. Traffic halted on public highways and rural mail carriers turned back. School wagons could not reach students, who stayed with townspeople Wednesday night as all trains on the C and E I line were stopped except one late passenger.
Rev. Isaac Embree, longtime patient of the ingrown toenail ailment, had his foot amputated between the knee and ankle after gangrene followed failed toe surgery. The procedure was led by Dr F S Cuthbert, with Parwin Caplinger and Drs C A Caplinger and C C Wert assisting, and Embree was slowly improving at last report.
Joe Williams completed his sixty day jail sentence last Sunday and walked out of the county jail a free man. He returned to his home near Yeddo on the first train. Miss Gladys Harlow returned to her home in Crawfordsville Friday resigning her position in the schools here. Alonzo Eiler and wife returned to their home in Rensselaer after a week’s visit with relatives. J W Fewry a contractor was here from Attica last Thursday night. E J Myers left here Tuesday for Louisiana with Loyd Madden and H J McAlister and J W Black. J Mark Inlow and J Manson Lewis went to Mississippi to look after real estate interests. Frank Shell went to Longview Illinois to visit relatives for a week. Myrtle Harvey went to Indianapolis for the grand millinery opening. David J Ratcliff was in Corydon on business Tuesday. Wm Nolen and family were here from Mecca over Sunday.
J Frank McDermond’s Attica store announces a seven day 83 cent sale starting Saturday Feb 24 to clear surplus merchandise. Large stock of new Spring goods for men women and home included. Piano offered at about a hundred dollars off with a promise of reliable quality and value.
Miss Ruby Goddard returned home from a visit to her cousin Miss Alta Goddard at Stone Bluff. Attendees at the Rockville Farmers Institute included Dave Marshall and wife Charley DeBaun and wife Mort Goddard and wife and William Bowsher and family. The Ladies Aid serves lunch at the Goddard and DeBauns sale. Aunt Charlotte Armstrong is reported improving. Holiness meetings in Tangier draw many locals. Mrs. Mary Farner visited Linda Causey Friday. Dave Marshall, Ros Garrard and families attended church in Tangier and dined with Charley Stackhouse. Mort Goddard went to Weldon Monday. Edgar Harvey and family visited their mother Mrs Jane Harvey Sunday.
A Massey letter states they are not permanently located yet and are living in Monroe Louisiana where the climate is sunny with 80 degree shade temperatures and only a few frosts. A revival began at Pleasant Grove Christian church led by Rev. Fred Chelan who recently completed a successful meeting at Yeddo and invites the public. James W. Bonebrake has secured the agency for the can t sag farm gate, praised as economical and durable. Lee Clements and family visited Sam Hybarger over Sunday along with Roscoe and Harry Woody.
Thursday marked W T Briggs's 55th birthday with a surprise planned by his wife and daughter Mrs. Scott E Ratcliff. Guests assembled after a ruse that Billy’s hens were stolen, followed by a grand noon meal and a cake bearing Briggs’s name and age. Attendees included M E Howrey and wife A W Bonebrake and family H S Jones and son Frank Addison Hepler and family James S GE Ratcliff and family Vivian C L Steinbaugh and son James John Gillegg and wife Levi Redenbaugh and granddaughter C H Ratcliff and wife Mrs Sarah Tinder and Mrs Adah Townsley of Danville and Ira Bonebrake. A fine teachers bible was among the presents.
Trustee Lindley of Liberty township accompanied by Chester Brown a boy abandoned by his mother and whose father is dead was in Rockville to arrange placing the child in an Indianapolis orphan's home the board of children's guardians directing the action.
