The Fountain county murder case ends with Gilbert Crumley convicted of manslaughter after a 42 hour trial. Public dissatisfaction grows and calls for investigation into jury conduct while prosecutors condemn the verdict as a travesty of justice.
Ladies Aid of the Christian church presents the four act drama The Iron Hand at the Kingman Opera House on Friday evening February 14. Cast includes Oliver Montford J B Rowlett Harmon VanDorn Walter Robinson Jack Minton Wayne Cory Old Ikey Wash Harvey Alawkins Karl Wright Bella Mrs Claude Barker Lizzie etc. Proceeds go to church funds with a revival at the U B church delaying start to 830.
The revival at the U B church begins next Sunday night with Rev Higgenbathem preaching. On Monday evangelists Miss C A Taggart and Nellie Gulley will assist. The ladies come highly recommended and good meetings are expected. Everyone is invited to attend.
In Wallace vicinity a man named Joseph Keller, about 45, found dead with a 22 caliber rifle wound to the temple in his bed. The death by own action occurred Wednesday morning after he had prepared two firearms and he had a history of mental imbalance and prior insanity confinement.
Jonathan C. Mendenhall died at his home near Sylvania Wednesday forenoon after a very short illness. He was 76 years 3 months and 5 days old. He leaves a wife and two sons Pearly and Ottie, with many relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at Rush Creek church Saturday forenoon at 10 o'clock.
Mrs. Roy Sanders came back to her Covington home after a several day visit with her mother Mrs. Sarah Jackson. Mrs. W. E. McCrary with her son Lex and daughter Helen also went to Covington to visit friends H. El. Puckett and John Gillogg on business today.
A petition filed in the county auditor's office seeks a local option election to decide if Covington should license saloons for two years. The county board orders elections in Covington and Veedersburg for March 3, with Covington facing a dry vote to potentially end saloons. The timing may force license renewals and cost concerns for applicants.
Martin Wright, a well known local figure, has been critically ill at Earl Park for several days and shows slight improvement as this edition goes to press. Mrs M P Rowlett and her son Roscoe traveled to Covington today to visit Dr J T Redmon and his wife.
Frank B. Moore born October 24 1884 near Kingman Indiana was the eldest of eight siblings. He married Phrona Marshall in 1905 and worked as a butcher/guardian administrator before moving to Fowler and Watseka with his wife and son Gordon born 1911. He died January 27 1913 after a typhoid illness. funeral services were held January 31 1913 at the U B church, with burial in Harveysburg cemetery.

Kingman plans a public library with a mill levy and seeks a Carnegie library building. The council approved a library tax and appointed a board with a mix of town and township members. State organizer Carl Milam promoted library access, textbook quality, and civic education for children and rural schools.
