James Smith, Terre Haute piano salesman, accused of seduction of Violet Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Preston G. Smith, was brought from Nashville to Covington in custody of Claude R. Philpott and C. C. Whitlock. He waived reading, pleaded not guilty, bond set at $1,000, trial scheduled for Thursday, January 12, with Judge Schoonever presiding.

Still Missing From Hillsboro After San Francisco Earthquake
Herbert Williams son of the late A J Williams of Hillsboro was in San Francisco when the April 1906 earthquake struck. He had written his mother he planned to sail for New Zealand. Whether he escaped or perished remains unknown five years later, with no news from him despite inquiries to officials and ship lists.
