County Assessed Property Increases By One Million

The Board of Review finished its work and the County Auditor completed the property abstracts showing a county wide increase of about one million dollars from four years ago. Real estate values rose in nearly every township and corporation, with Covington the only decrease due to personal property losses. Mortgages rose and some farms dropped in value as changes were few in individual assessments. A table lists total taxable values by township for this year and four years prior, with railroads and state assessments to follow. Local notes mention visits by Chas. Dark and others, a drowning incident of Drexel Morgan, and the upcoming Lawn Fete at the Christian church with treats and fun planned.

Only Woman Mason Story Comes From Old Lodge Records

A Scottish Historical Directory account cites Hon. Miss Elizabeth St Leger daughter of Lord Doneraile as the only woman ever admitted to Freemasonry in 1735. Initiated under Lodge Doneraile Ireland after spying a meeting behind a wall, she faced a death option but chose initiation. The tale refutes claims of multiple women in the fraternity.
