Joe Williams, held in Covington on a family mistreatment charge involving his daughter, posted a 1500 cash bond Thursday afternoon and was released from Sheriff Kerr custody. The bond was posted by his brother Shelby Williams as his defense team gathers evidence for a September trial.
Tuesday marked Greenlea Woody's nineteenth birthday with a family dinner hosted by grandparents Mr and Mrs Levi Woody. Guests included Jas Steinbaugh Garland Steinbaugh Wayne Cory and Clark Jones.
At the Lindley residence near Harveysburg Myron Pithead suffered severe injuries when a squirrel hunting mishap caused a shard of a branch to glance and strike his wrist and right eye The event involved Boyd Fenton and a mistaken report in a local paper. Dr Cuthbert treats Pithead and fears possible eye removal if pain persists.
Covington resident Alexander Hetfield, a long time Fountain County Democrat and active in local politics, died at his home after a period of illness. Funeral services were held yesterday with Tidal Lodge No. 36 K of P leading the ceremony. He was 60 and highly regarded as a civic figure.
George Wilkins has bought a cider mill and plans to operate it with local support. The note praises cider and signals community interest in the venture.
Trustee Lawson pledges to fund and oversee a new school building addition. Delegation including Dr. King and M. F. Livengood reviewed requirements for a deeper basement, new furnace, more light and ventilation, and an eight room layout with full basement. An advisory board declared an immergency and directed Lawson to hire an architect and begin plans immediately.
L. C. King & Co's stock of pranos sewing machines phono graphs records and small musical instruments was crated Wednesday and returned to their Frankfort store from Harvey and Printy Millinery. Morrison, who managed their interests, becomes a traveling salesman for the firm. Local stay yielded good business but the territory proved too small to continue. The shopkeeper praises the firm as fair and wishes success.
Earl Tunin son of Mr and Mrs Robert Tunin sustained one broken rib and another fractured one while helping at the home of Wilber Hubbard last Saturday. Lars slipped from the wagon step and the weight of his body struck the side of the bed. suffering was intense but improving nicely now.
Mrs. Fred Madden and her daughters Doris and Dorine traveled to Covington for a brief visit with relatives and friends. Mrs. Malon Whittaker from Veedersburg and Miss Emma Cory from Brook were guests of C. M. Hudson and family. O. E. Starnes came by town on Wednesday with fine eating apples and left thanks for them.
Miss Janie Drake underwent an operation for a double tumor Tuesday morning at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville. Dr. Barcus led the procedure. she came through the surgery and was recovering. Accompanied by her son Edgar and relatives, funds were raised locally to cover expenses, reflecting Kingman’s charitable spirit and missionary values at home.
Weather permitting an open air service will be held next Sunday evening on the Pythond lawn across from Fay Cook's studio. Rev Kelsey of United Brethren Church will preach. If rain forces indoors, the union portion will shift to the church. organizers report growing attendance and church unity in Kingman.
The Christian Sunday school will hold its annual picnic at Turkey Run next Sunday. Sunday school begins an hour earlier at 11:30 to start the Run earlier. Everyone is invited to bring baskets and enjoy the day's activities.
Emma Dark and Miss Celia Wilkins traveled to Danville Illinois yesterday for funeral plans. The remains of Jonathan L. Jones, longtime local pioneer, were brought to Rush Creek for burial with Rev. Des Teague conducting the service. Jones died Sunday near Coldwater Kansas from apoplexy.
Jasper Cunningham of Fountain County, reputed as the largest man and a wealthy farmer near Wallace, died Sunday at his home after a period of illness. He owned 700 acres and other property, once weighed over 400 pounds, and survived by his widow and three children. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Cunningham home with burial in Wolf Creek cemetery.
Mrs Will Carter visited in Yeddo Tuesday and Mrs Chas Dudley of Mecca spent the weekend here. Byron Grismore was in Veedersburg Monday. Mr and Mrs Elmer Marlow returned home in Attica after visiting relatives. George and James B Marks received a 505 dollar draft for lightning loss, insured under The Fidelity Phoenix farm policy with Canon C Howrey as agent.
On Tuesday the Kingman Boy Scouts with Rev. R. V. Johnson picnicked at Turkey Run. They rode on a hay ladder wagon from 6 15 AM to 9 PM, enjoying hill climbs hollow exploration rope swing croquet horse shoe swimming and ball games. Attendees included Hugh Carter Frank Myer Edward Moore Jack Moore Ferris Hudson George Dickens and others.
Mr. and Mrs. Clark Millikan of Sheridan Indiana are visiting their daughter Mrs. Pliny Cox and family for a stay as guests.
