Geologic Survey Starts Fountain County Work in May
Harold Orahood, employed by the state geological survey, will begin a Fountain County survey in May and run to November to map soils and topography. Edward Barrett will make weekly visits. the project covers soil types, climate, drainage, and potential uses of raw materials with maps and analyses. The 1912 edition of the county reports includes Montgomery and Parke counties, and the Fountain study is eagerly anticipated.

Wabash Wreck at Attica Costs Rail Line Dearly
A Wabash Continental Limited wreck at the Attica river bridge last Sunday caused the loss of three lives and extensive damage to engine tender and several cars. The collapse followed an under inspected bridge after a prior freight car derailment and testing by a heavy engine. Rescue crowds formed and survivors escaped via broken windows as rescuers removed the dead and injured. Engineer Timothy Hull of Peru died crushed and scalded. Harry Thomas of St Louis suffered fatal head injuries. Fireman J L Miller perished after the engine fell.
