The town of Kimball in Brule County South Dakota is positioned near the center of the county in prime farming and stock country. The region’s rich crops in recent years serve as proof of its superior location and agricultural potential.
The passage describes a railroad town located on the Main Line of the Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul system, 48 miles west of Mitchell and 22 miles east of Chamberlain. It lists a public school, churches, a first class post office, two banks, two hotels, a large grain elevator with material on hand for another, three lumber yards, blacksmith shops, livery stables, and stores. It notes strong economic activity and urges investment by energetic men.
A Missourian recollects Rev. Ed Buckley’s account of Henry Clay in a Kentucky court. The tale centers on a 40 year old will dispute in Lexington where Clay, challenged by John J. crittenden, masterfully revived the courtroom with a dramatic appeal saying the futility and groundlessness of the opposing argument.
