Des Moines and Newton Bank Case Highlights Fraud Plot
In Newton Tasper county an elderly woman, Mrs Mary Brewer, attempted to withdraw 4000 dollars from a bank claiming she would invest it and hide the money at home. The banker and cashier followed her to her residence and exposed a scheme involving an Egyptian collaborator. Brewer was fined for vagrancy and left town. A separate incident in Chicago ends with James D Fish, ex Marine Bank president, released on parole after serving part of a fraud sentence.
