Washington's Inauguration Pageant Closes Citywide Celebration
On May Day New York hosted a vast closing festival for Washington’s inauguration centennial. Tens of thousands from diverse nations paraded in a grand industrial pageant, with representations of Washington history, crafts, and various ethnic divisions, while President Harrison reviewed parts of the procession and a special train carried the party toward Washington. The event was hailed as a monumental, unprecedented spectacle in the nation’s capital.
