Located on the Main Line 48 miles west of Mitchell and 22 miles east of Chamberlain the town features a fine public school building churches a first class post office two banks two hotels a large grain elevator with material on hand three lumber yards blacksmith shops livery stables and comprehensive stores. The text notes strong investment inducements as the country grows and more residents are sought.
Telegram dated June 27 reports Gov. Ordway ordering the removal of territorial offices and archives from Yankton to Bismarck as the legality of the act relocating the capital debates. The May 1884 Supreme Court record details the case challenging the act and the executive moves.
