Nigrate of Soda for Melons
Our melon growers Bays W. F. Massey writes in The Progressive Partner that they always apply a trat of soda around the plants when they begin to run well. A small handful is scattered around each plant, but not in contact with the stem, and care is taken to apply it when the leaves are dry to avoid scalding. It has a wonderfully good effect on watermelons and cantaloupes and cucumbers, keeping them green and storing and hastening the fruiting.
