Rudolph Rabens Gets 3 Years For Robbery In Newry

H Rudolph Rabens appeared before Judge Ernest Gary and received a sentence of three years on the public works of Oconee County or in the state penitentiary for participation in the December 14 1908 robbery of the Courtesy Manufacturing Company at Newry. He was tried in his absence at Walhalla and a bench warrant issued for his arrest. Rabens waived jurisdictional points and asked the sentence be opened for reading out of term time. The court set bail at 5000 and Rabens filed a formal appeal seeking a new trial. Rabens remains active in business and commented on related post office robbery rumors, denying direct involvement.
