Rust Magnates to Prison Advocation in Anti Trust Case
Attorney General Wickersham told the House committee the Supreme Court rulings in the Standard Oil and American Tobacco decisions will intensify efforts to convict anti trust offenders. He cited juries and courts’ past reluctance to sentence under the anti trust law, while noting willingness to convict may grow if the government persists. He declined to disclose government plans on New York cotton cases and emphasized possible action against seven men controlling the raw cotton pool if the final case is sustained. Meanwhile a separate report from Georgia notes an industrial accident near Walhalla injuring workers, and a medicinal ad promotes a cheap cure with broad distribution by a Toledo firm.
