Commencement Marks Epoch in Seneca High School History
Seneca May 31 Special Last week featured the Seneca High School commencement beginning with a baccalaureate sermon and ending with Friday night graduation. The orators medal contest produced Wilkes Dendy first and J W Stribling second. Fifteen seniors graduated, with salutatory by Sue Ellen Hunter and valedictorian Warren Gignilliat. The address by Prof. Hand drew attentive crowds. Medals were awarded to Clara V. McCarey and Billie Blackburn. gentility honors went to Billie Blackburn and Sue Ellen Hunter. The board elected Miss Lalla Ballenger to the fourth grade. plans were announced for the county fair to be held in Seneca. a music recital and various social events followed. Several faculty changes and local notices concluded the week.

Coal train plunges through trestle near Charlotte
A coal train fell through a trestle two miles east of Charlotte on May 29 at about 6 o'clock. Both engineers died and several crew members were seriously injured. Names include R. M. Green, M. Lindsey, Roy Dooley, Warly Lewis, and Neely. The train, loaded with coal from Clinchfield mines bound for the coast, was picked up by Seaboard at Boston. The front locomotive was found burned after the wreck.
