Six persons were killed and twenty injured when eastbound passenger train No. 42 collided with a switch engine one mile west of Johnson City Tennessee at 7 30 AM. The switch crewman escaped, the passenger train derailed with a baggage car a mail car and a second class coach overturned. The second class coach carried George Moore a labor agent and twenty Negro passengers from Alabama to North Carolina. Moore was fatally or seriously hurt and several others were injured. The steel mail car survived while the other cars were wrecked.

Mrs Martha Matilda Carey died Friday at her son William Carey’s home in Seneca after a long illness. Born in 1825 she was married in 1846 to John W N Carey and they settled on Keowee River. She leaves seven sons and one daughter, joined the Presbyterian church years ago, and will be buried at the family ground on Keowee. Funeral services were led by Revs Kirkpatrick and Blackburn.
