Mass mob lynches Black man after brutal attack in Greenwood
In Greenwood August 14 a mob ranging from 600 to 1,000 pursued Bob Davin a Black man accused of attacking Miss Jennie Brooks and slashing her throat. Despite Governor Heyward and sheriffs pleas the crowd dragged Davin to a tree and hanged him, then fired a volley as his body swung, in a brutal public lynching condemned by officials but carried out by the mob.
