Ray Gallagher, acting sophomore president, leads a sophomore tribunal to enforce campus rules on freshmen. A 200 member vigilante committee will ensure compliance, with daily 4 pm hearings and penalties for violations. Rules include dress, seating, dancing, no smoking, carrying matches, and attendance at events, ending November 1 on Homecoming day.
A month-long drive was begun at the Newman club during its second meeting. Jules Bognar and Warren Kerrigan were named leaders of competitive teams guiding the effort.
Dr. A O DeWeese head of the HPE department and Dr A C Poe assistant professor of HPE will attend today’s meeting of the legislative council of the Ohio Physical and Health Education Association in Columbus. DeWeese represents the Ohio Public Health association council and Poe is a member at large. DeWeese will also attend the Ohio Public Health association meeting while in Columbus.
Defense workers are offered large scale night classes at Kent State University. English industrial arts education math history psychology and business are among forty eight courses for war department Atlas Powder and other defense industry employees. Industrial arts and business administration draw the heaviest demand with wedding blue print drawing and mathematics popular. High school graduates entering defense jobs are given special attention to continue schooling.
An Akron weather official linked yesterday’s campus winds to a hurricane off the Gulf of Mexico that curved into the northeast Ohio district after passing Texas and Canada. The gusts averaged 50 mph with peaks near 68 mph around noon, expected to ease today. Thunderstorms this summer show similar gusts but shorter duration. No connection to the northern lights is noted.
Four hundred students packed the University auditorium for the inaugural football pep rally last night. The turnout reflected strong campus enthusiasm as organizers promised more rallies this season.
KSU faces Bluffton on the new field at 2 p m with a draft laden lineup. Veterans Porowski Mileski Petros Heichel anchor the line while Fortunato Britt Kuzmenko Misko provide firepower. Kim the German shepherd mascot will be introduced as the Flashes debut in blue and white.
United States congressman Don Harter from the 14th district will address a university assembly at 10 a m in the auditorium on defense progress. He chairs a aviation subcommittee and recently toured Central America the Canal Zone the Caribbean and coastal defense bases. A question period follows the talk and all classes are excused for attendance.
Dean Raymond Manchester will address the Senior Men's luncheon next Tuesday at 12 noon at the Robin Hood. He will discuss the University role in the defense program and explain the University Defense Council and the part university men play in it. The luncheon has fostered better relations between senior men for three years.
Joe Blair of the YMCA announced open signups for men at the atrium table as 60 students gathered for a YMCA YWCA sponsored weiner roast at the University grille. The campus patrol color guard will start activities at the Kent State Bluffton game and nine members elected officers Leonard Wood Robert Miller Walter Weston Oscar Haller.
