Nine KSU Names Added To War’s Honor Roll

Kent State University lists nine men killed in action or missing in war since last June. Lieut Harold E Wheeler, a B-29 pilot with sixty five missions, died in a China crash after five years service. Others include Lieuts Fred W Dabelow and Wendell Shreve, Cpl John Davis, S/Sgt James Lindeman, Sgt Stanley Carrell, Ensign Robert Fraser, Lieut Bruce Hutchines, and Lt Daniel E LaHurd, with details on their service and origins from Akron, Ravenna, Cuyahoga Falls, and nearby areas.

Libraries Plan More Leisure Time Reading

University libraries outline plans to boost leisure reading with a browsing room at Rockwell Library. Acting librarian Dr. Weldon Williams said rotating collections will include recent fiction and older standard works plus current non fiction such as biology and war books.

Dean Crecraft Finds Organ Play a Relaxing Pastime

Dean Crecraft describes his musical journey from piano and violin to organ, a hobby he pursues after strenuous days. He organized orchestras at Franklin College and Columbia University, earning his keep by playing during meals. He favors Victor Herbert tunes and hymns like We Gather Together, with a taste for German French and Russian classical music.

Postwar funding eyed to add two new campus buildings

The Ohio postwar program committee weighs a $2,401,000 allotment by the state to Kent and five other universities for a 600 bed men dormitory costing 1,282,900 a 511,800 student union 75,000 airport improvements and two on hand projects a student health building and an industrial arts building costing about 350,000 with construction to start when material restrictions end.

Elaine Chambelin joins the social committee and George Insche the entertainment panel as approved by the Student Council. A special meeting on allocations is set for Wednesday night. The committee meets today at 4 p m with budgets from financial organizations presented for the coming quarter. Budgets are not slated for approval before Thursday afternoon.

Dr. James R. Beck assistant geography professor and Mrs Beck welcomed a son, James Reed Jr., born Sunday. Dr. Beck, recovering from a fall with two broken heels, will meet his classes at home in several weeks.

Alpha Psi Omega member shone in university stage roles

The individual, a member of the Alpha Psi Omega honorary dramatic fraternity, starred in the University Theatre production of Uncle Tom's Cabin and appeared in Abe Lincoln in Illinois. A former University orator took second place in Ohio in the Prince of Peace contest as a high school student. Proctor withdrew from the University last spring. Anna Lucasta has played on Broadway since August 30.

Enrollment total reaches 886 for fall quarter

Final enrollment for the fall quarter reached 886, announced by registrar E. C. Stopher. The figure shows an increase of more than 100 students from last year's fall enrollment of 770.
