Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver spoke to about 1,000 University students urging that freedom must be earned by each generation. He warned that living free requires paying a high price, including military training or war if needed, and cautioned against living as slaves in tyranny.
Students who finished with Duchess magazines must return them to the dean of men's office due to insufficient copies for University men in the Army and Navy. No penny collection this week.
Four Kent State University faculty members joined the Kent State Alumni Association of Cuyahoga County meeting in Cleveland. Attendees included Prof. C. E. Satterfield president, Miss Mona Fletcher associate professor, M. E. Wagoner assistant professor, and E. C. Stopher registrar. Newly elected officers are Kenneth Nash president, Harvey Scheetz vice president, Mrs. Robert Didhem recording secretary, Miss Bess D. Meany corresponding secretary, and Frank Curtiss treasurer.
The publications committee will meet today at 4 p m in Prof William Taylor's office room 114 Merrill Hall announced yesterday. Members include Bill Schraegle Jules Bognar Bob Leese Professors Taylor Eric Griebling Chester Satterfield Mona Fletcher George Betts and Ada Hyatt.
Bob Byrne, president of the freshman class, will present a 45 dink hat to Jessica Dragonette when she arrives Monday for her concert. Dragonette’s millinery includes fezes and feathered hats. she tours Native American reservations and recently added a Daniel Boone mink hat to her fall ensemble. Tickets for the Artists series concert are on sale at the music office.
Three representatives from the National Conference of Christians and Jews will speak at a University convocation Tuesday November 25 at 11 am in the auditorium. Dr Everet Clinchy Father Vincent Donovan and Rabbi Ezra Lazaron return from England with plans to propose a postwar American peace expeditionary force to aid Europe’s economic social and spiritual reconstruction. They travel to 35 cities presenting their views.
Stan Mouse and Charles Ayres were elected by the junior class as representatives to the Men's Union at a meeting outside McGilvrey hall. The group, led by Bill Guisewite, plans a dance in the first nine weeks of the second semester and sets dues at 50 cents with a two week payment window.
First round of the extemporaneous speaking tournament will be held today at 4 p m Scheffel Pierce director announced yesterday Participating organizations include Sigma Sigma Sigma Pi Kappa Sigma Alpha Omega sororities Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity and Psi Chi honorary psychology fraternity.
University Forensic Club members debated Akron University students yesterday at 4 p m in room 316 Kent hall on Federal Regulation of Labor Unions. It was the third non decisive debate of the season announced by Prof J N Holm. Affirmative speakers were Edwin Dreger and Bernie Harris while Herb Myers and Ed Chapman spoke for the negative. Earlier debates were with Capital University and Case School of Applied Science.
The Kent State university prom faces a puzzle as Dr Catherine MacGregor leads an unofficial team poll for queen with Ben Wright Cay McGowan and Betty Follin also named. MacGregor plans to visit Indiana for a Purdue Indiana game while the queen is to be presented at the dance.
A film titled Eyes of the Navy will screen in room 317 McGilvrey hall illustrating naval aviation training at Pensacola and San Diego with the fleet. Lt. Loren C. Berry of the Naval Aviation Cadet Selection board will describe the program Tuesday, November 25.
The faculty round table discussion continues next Saturday night at 7 30 with panelists Dr J L Blair dean of the college of education Dr Maurice Baum professor of philosophy and Dr J F Cuber associate professor of sociology all returning after last week to revisit Can Democracy Be Taught.
Education staff set for Monday 4 p.m. meeting in Kent hall room 117 to discuss credits for Civil Aeronautics Authority instruction. Dean John L. Blair says general business and committee reports will also be on the agenda.
