The B F Goodrich company establishes synthetic rubber research labs in McGilvrey hall at Kent with Dr Waldo L Semon and Dr Charles F Fryling directing the work for the war duration. A university collaborative program at Cornell parallels the effort. Mary Howard of Akron joins the Goodrich staff. The million dollar building, completed in 1940, houses multiple science and classroom spaces.

Cadet Dick O Conner Killed In Plane Crash
Air Cadet Richard J. O Conner a former university student was killed in a plane crash near Georgiana Alabama during a night cross country flight on March 29 The dean said the death is the 20th casualty on the KSU Roll of Honor Cadet Conner resided in Cuyahoga Falls and studied at the university in fall 1941.
