Eight men and eight women answered the question on varsity women’s participation. A majority supported representation in sports like golf tennis and swimming while opinions on broader inclusion varied. Several favored separate women’s teams for intercollegiate competition.
Dean Raymond E. Manchester reported that 52 students submitted applications to participate in university sponsored defense projects. He said the organization process would continue this week.
Election of Newman club officers for the next school year will be held at 4 p m today in room 109 Merrill hall. Ray Hromco presided. nominees last week include John Kelly Jim O Hara Bob Cook and Tom Bates for president and first vice president Cay McGowan Betty Bowles and Helen Elliott for second vice president Ray Phillips Frank Vorsan and Tony Piraino for treasurer.
Howard Hansen said reservations for the trip to New York would close at noon. Thirteen students have reserved spots for the four day weekend voyage costing 29.50 dollars. The train is scheduled to depart at 5 43 p m and the plan hinges on two more enrollments.
Twelve candidates compete for student council seats with affiliations listed. Ed Zink, elections chairman, announced the slate including Joe Blair I Robert Mosher G Jane Stroup I Frank OBrien G juniors Robin Keith G Joe Hart I Hope Byrne G Irving Waterbury I sophomores Ray Gallagher I Jane Wrentmore G Ed Kieselbach I John Lemak G.
Betty Gorlich, an HPE major, was elected president of the WAA by 20 to 16. Mabel Esping, also an HPE major and a junior, won the vice president post by 19 to 17.
Cardinal Key will complete plans for Campus Night at a meeting in room 108 Kent hall. Betty Crampton, Kay Maloney and Dorothy Hostettler will supervise the May Queen judging Friday at 1 pm in Moulton hall music room.
Captain Ray Novotny of Uncle Sam's 37th Division on leave from Camp Shelby Miss visited Kent State University yesterday, greeting friends and coaches. He oversees 20,000 men at the camp handling athletics housing and morale and spoke of a new athletic field and a forthcoming track meet headlined by Chuck Fenske. He may not return to Kent State next year if officers must remain to train recruits.
Dick Clark was introduced as newly elected president of the Inter-fraternity Council at the fifth annual banquet. Phi Beta won the scholarship cup for top average 2.48, second place Kappa Mu Kappa 2.41. Ed Zink named vice president and other officers listed. Judge W. W. Filiatraut urged growth in fraternities as assets to the university.
Fifty four coed voices directed by Miss Elfreda Littlejohn perform the fourth concert of six in the university music series. The Women’s glee club opens with four pieces and is joined by the University Training School children’s chorus conducted by Miss Ora Belle Bachman. The program includes Purcell Ave Maria Scarlatti Mendelssohn and Burkart selections.
