Hazel Kelly Named Greek Candidate for Miss Kent State

Hazel Kelly, 21, a junior and Beta Gamma member, is Greek candidate for Miss Kent State. The active athlete plans to teach physical education and plays tennis, basketball, and swim. She serves as athletic manager of Beta Gamma and participates in the Women's Athletic Association. She is five feet seven inches tall and weighs about 130 pounds and looks the part as she accepts the role with enthusiasm.

Miss Winona Eyre an Akron native and senior Burr editor seeks the Miss Kent State crown. She plans a future in newspaper work after teaching school, holds two degrees in liberal arts and education, and is active in journalism circles through Lambda Phi.

PTA Confab Opens Here Tomorrow

Fifteen hundred parents and educators plan to attend the Northeastern Ohio PTA spring conference at Kent State University. Dorothy Waldo Phillips of Landowne Pa will give the main address and 12 group discussions will follow. Ohio educators and PTA workers will be platform guests at the evening session, with a banquet in Lowry hall and a Kent State band program.

Delts Take Frat Swim Meet Crown

Delta Phi Sigma won the inter fraternity swimming meet at the University pool with 33 points led by Don Edwards scoring 18. Kappa Sigma Chi had an early lead anchored by Bill Dedinsky before Delta Phi Sigma pulled ahead.

NTFC Production Staff Drives Up The May Show

NTFC production staff is the sparkplug of a May 1 and 2 show. Four key staffers under cover handle technicals while Guisewire and Mouse guide the credit goes to the crew behind the scenes. Frances Allen assists, drawing on past production experience and performing in the Gay 90s scene. Jerry Prinz serves a steady six person stage management crew handling scenery and quick changes to prevent misdrops. Two Youngstown students are involved.

Miss Kent State 1941 crowned as polls open on activity fee vote

University voters go to the polls to decide a 50 cent activities fee increase for class events and gifts. The plan, rejected by the trustees last April, was approved by the student council and appears on today's ballot with funds to be placed in a separate class fund for each graduating class. President Leebrick notes past attempts and signals possible resubmission if supported.

Hoose Rallies After Pneumonia From Akron Crash

Dick Hoose rose from a 105 degree fever caused by pneumonia after a severe auto crash in Akron. He and two other Kent youths, James Blackstock and Leonard Pomeroy, remained in Akron City Hospital in fair condition with hopes Blackstock could be discharged in three to four weeks.

First University Faculty Concert Draws 200 Fans

The inaugural faculty recital at the university was held in the auditorium last night. Kenneth Byler and Harold Miles presented works by Shubert Hindemith and Franck to an audience of 200 faculty and others who applauded and urged encores.

President Ray Gallagher announces the freshman prom will feature 1000 balloons in Wills gym on April 8. Balloons have been bought already and surpass prior records, leaving the question of who will inflate them.
