A university calendar revision extends spring vacation to 12 days. All class work and exams conclude March 17. Registration for graduate, junior and senior students occurs March 18. Classes resume March 30. Some pre-registration changes and religious observance accommodations are noted.
Seniors graduating in March and June must place orders for announcements at the Merrill hall table by Friday. Payment is due at the time of order, per Pete Ulrich, committee chair. This is the only week orders will be taken.
Changes in the proposed spring quarter schedules must be made by Friday March 11 through advisers who hold pre-selection cards. Advisers will sort master copy cards alphabetically sign in the spaces and submit them to the registrar. Approved programs will form the spring schedules, officials said.
Traveling Aviation Cadet team will interview students in the Moulton Hall music room on March 4 and 7 about pilot training and a commission as Air Force officers.
A Varsity King will be chosen by students at the Booster club dance on March 11 at East Market Gardens Akron. Each couple earns a voting ticket. Sports captains must submit contestant names to the Stater office by 4 p.m. Thursday and provide photos by 4 p.m. Friday.
Miss Mary Richardson, youth secretary for the Commission on World Affairs Cleveland, will move to room 2020 from 4 to 5 p.m. today in South Hall to discuss summer work and social service opportunities. The UNESCO conference will be held in Kent on May 7, and Richardson has several foreign summer jobs to offer qualified students.
Peter Ulrich a university senior baritone will present a senior voice recital on Thursday March 10 at 8 p.m. in 309M sponsored by the music department. He will perform Wagner Debussy Rogers and Massenet in multiple languages with pianist Gerald Forbes. Ulrich a member of the a cappella choir studies voice in Cleveland and at the university. He is vice president of the senior class and a member of Kappa Sigma Chi while expected to graduate in June.
First nighters view the original Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet as the University theater presents its annual classic with David Garrick’s tomb scene variant. The 18th century update heightens the final act’s tension under director G Harry Wright.
Four university faculty members have articles in recent magazines. Dr. James T. Laing's Folkways of Regional Sociology Societies accepted by Sociology and Social Research. Dr. J Arthur Herrick's Use of Kodachromes in Teaching Local Flora printed in Turtox News. Miss Hazel Messimore and Miss Helen Machan collaborated on They Learn So Easily for the Modern Language journal.
Dr. Robert I. White dean of the college of education spoke at the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education in St. Louis on providing laboratory experience for teacher trainees. Susanne M. Koehler met Lake county teachers at Mentor to revise language arts for elementary schools. Dr. Olive Woodruff Dr. Marion Van Campen and Prof. Janet C. Rees also work on language revision project.
Applications for Chestnut Burr editor and business manager and for the Daily Kent Stater are due today by 5 p.m. in the school of journalism office per Prof. William Taylor. Burr yearbook entries extend to Friday at 5 p.m. Interviews for all applicants are set for Wednesday March 9 at 4 p.m. with mandatory attendance.
Applications are being received for a student assistant in the university athletic publicity office. Prof. Michael Radock says one new appointment will be made in March and another for the fall term. Applicants must be experienced in writing sports stories.
