Eighty Students to Play at University Formal Recital

Eighty persons will perform in the first formal recital of the school of music at the University auditorium at 8 15 tonight. The University orchestra, directed by Joseph Lupkiewicz, and the Women's Glee club under Miss Elfreda Littlejohn present soloists Athena Raptis Ruth West Alice Cox Rose Christ and Marjorie Gatts. The program includes Mendelssohn War March Grieg At the Cloister Gate Mozart Shubert Strauss Brahms Bach passages with the glee club and orchestra. Admission via student activity tickets.

Third Pork Barrel Fest Upsets at University Auditorium

About 1000 fans watched KMKs Engleman hall Beta Gammas John Boda and The Four Roses win the third annual Pork Barrel. Kappa Mu Kappa took the group prize with A Day with the President. Beta Gamma sorority won Memories in Song. John 30da claimed the individual trophy for Fu zat in D minor. The Four Roses debuted with Pure as the Driven Snow and Engleman hall won the hall group prize with Priorities. John Paulich was master of ceremonies.

Beck OWA To Conduct Red Cross Campaign

Plans for an all University Red Cross war fund drive were announced by the Office of War Activities. A meeting at 4 o clock today in Merrill Hall room 204 will outline faculty student and employee solicitations with Dr James Beck named chair of the faculty and employees campaign by President K C Leebrick.

Debaters Win Third In Indiana Conference

The University debate team finished third at the 13th annual debate conference at Manchester College North Manchester Ind Northwestern and Notre Dame captured first and second. Kent speakers led with three wins topping 20 schools. Don Wargowsky won five and one on the affirmative while Herb Myers and Bob Beck posted three and three on the negative.

WSSF Drive To Open Here For War Relief

A campus drive to fund relief for college students and professors in war torn countries starts next week. National WSSF drives aim for 300000 dollars for refugees in France Swiss student interns and Chinese students forced from colleges. University executive committee co chairs Betty Osmundson and Phil Trapp lead with Peg Curry Bessie Hollis Lillian Hunter Jeanne Smith Marietta Young and Marty Forsberg.

Most Popular Election Set For March 11

The campus Most Popular election will be held Thursday March 11 in the atrium balcony. Petitions for nominations are due Friday March 5 at 4 p.m. Elections chief Peg Curry announced. Voting requires activity cards or identification by two peers. Peg Curry recently became vice president after Hope Byrne became president.

Army Air Corps Inspect Akron Campus for Cadet Training

Two Army Air Corps representatives from Maxwell Field Alabama inspected University of Akron facilities and nearby campuses for potential aviation cadet assignments starting April 1. Major Reynolds oversaw five cooperating colleges including Akron Fenn Western Reserve and Toledo. A prior campus review occurred a month earlier and trustees requested an April 1 assignment of 250 cadets from Washington.

Gamma Sigma Phi sorority runs an election for best boy and girl date linked to a penny drive led by Jean Lenner with votes by gender. Winners announced Friday. Committee includes Willis Humphrey Waldo. Penny total $34.76 with helpers Hollet Arnett Foote Cotton Shaffer Paulus. Alpha Omega rises to fifth with $22.50 collected last week.

WAAC Officer Encourages Women to Explore WAAC

Lieut. Jane Burdick, WAAC representative, spoke at a university convocation urging women to investigate joining. She said the WAAC has grown to 150000 officers and reservists with no special education required and an age limit of 21.

Band To Present Patriotic Concert at University

The University concert band will perform patriotic numbers for a student assembly Friday at 11 am in the auditorium. A saxophone quartet featuring Art Flynn and four others will also entertain. The band, reduced to 42 members by recent calls to service, seeks women with musical ability to join. Classes will be excused for the program.

Stump Sets Tryouts For Letters to Lucerne

Professor E Turner Stump directs a final round of tryouts for Letters to Lucerne tonight from 7 to 10 PM in room 316 Kent hall. He plans to double cast the male roles.
