The Booster club sponsors Leap Night Romp in Wills gym with George Conway and his Akron orchestra performing from 9 to 12. Women get 12:30 a.m. permits. Booster members enter free with card, non-members pay 50 cents. Co chairs are Peg McMillen and Dan Filips.
A student led Lent daily worship guide titled Guide Out Wednesday will go on sale Wednesday morning. The booklet contains about 30 articles one for each Lenten day and is priced at five cents per copy. Proceeds support religious life on campus and Christian Living Emphasis Week efforts.
Kent State University hosts a dinner meeting Wednesday to discuss forming a Northeastern Ohio School Board association. Twenty two counties will be represented by school board members, aligning with the monthly superintendent workshop at Kent.
About 160 high school students and debate coaches are expected on campus today and tomorrow for the Northern Ohio District Conference of the National Forensics League tournament. Six types of testing will be used including oratory extemporaneous speech debate and three classes of rhetorical speech. Finals are set for tomorrow afternoon and evening.
Dr. Joseph Politella of KSU leads a Thursday series at Christ Episcopal Church Kent from March 6 to April 3. The lectures, titled School of Prayer and Religion, explore Bible translations with modern insights and begin at 8 15 p m. The opening talk is How the Translations Have Come to Us followed by Is What is Legible Also Intelligible March 13 The Teachings About the Threefold Man March 20 Life and Death as Religiously Understood March 27 and Directions for Living Upstairs April 3.
A new discussion series at KSU titled Faculty Forum begins Monday March 3 at 8 p.m. in 207 Union. The first round table will discuss Erich Fromm and his work with KSU faculty panelists covering philosophy sociology history psychology and health. Sessions are open to the public.
Beard growers on campus will be put out of their misery next Thursday afternoon at 4 in the auditorium when the Men's union holds a judging ceremony to end its third annual beard growing contest. An assembly will feature three barbershop quartets and the judging of beards. Trophies go to the most unique beard and the best all round beard and a third to the fraternity with the largest percentage bearded. Judges include Paul C. Kitchin, Don McCafferty, and Tony Emanuel.
Dr. C V L Narayan United Nations member from India spoke in the Union ballroom urging politics as a college student pursuit. He said education is blocked by poverty, illiteracy remains high, and even compulsory elementary schooling cannot be enforced.
More than 100 students have signed up for a four day New York tour from KSU School of Speech during spring vacation. Prof. G Harry Wright announced the group will receive tickets to What's My Line and over 50 Broadway play tickets. The trip costs 48.50 not including meals. No signup deadline set. all enrolled students eligible. The 123 person last year delegation may be surpassed.
A new independent party on campus names itself United Independents. About 150 students from dormitories and off campus attended the last meeting to form steering committees and a rotating dormitory council. Plans include quarterly elections, annual secretary treasurer, and a tentative constitution to be drawn up Monday at 6 30 in room 202 Union with faculty advisors to follow.
