Betty Lou Tuttle wins the top model title among 41 coeds for the annual short course in news photography. She will pose with four attendants and the winner for photos during the March 20 23 event. 1945 Roosevelt high school graduate and former editor of her high school paper, she has little prior experience in front of a camera.
A Fox Movie Tone Newsreels representative scheduled for campus appearance on Wednesday and Thursday was reassigned to Detroit due to the unexpected end of the General Motors strike.
Enid Armstrong and Don Cox win permanent contralto and tenor parts in No Time for Casses. Others who tried out will receive mail notices about NTFC parts. Mike Friedland says singing and acting roles remain open. Don Warman assists Ed Siennicki with arranging the scores.
Allocations committee members are summoned to a crucial meeting Thursday at 4 p m in Room 204 Merrill Hall per chair Barbara Berkey.
Miss Margaret Wharton announces a new unsupervised recreation center for women in three campus dormitories at Moulton hall. The room will offer Cokes candy bars ping pong and a juke box and will operate daily 3 p.m. to house closing time with weekend hours yet undetermined. The 20 window first floor room has sound proof walls blue grey rose color and will have waxed dark blue floors for dancing with metal furniture and a doorway to Main street.
The K-Vets inaugurate a system using committees led by a general chairman from the executive board. Each committee will meet separately with heads for membership house rules legislation liaison housing publicity social orientation service program and constitution. Dues set at 25 cents per quarter payable at a hall table during pre-registration through three days after registration ends.
Thirty years apart George A Bowman spoke on founders day at WRU and Kent State. The younger Cleveland Sigma Nu member responded to Bowmans address at Adelbert College as the alumni event marked another founders day.
The Independent students association declares support for Coaliton party candidates George Inscho and Betty Jane Shutrump as the most popular man and woman. Norma Knisely, Bill Sullivan, and Jim Kinney enter the race with mixed backing. Knisely’s name to appear as write-in, while Sullivan and Kinney gain eligibility from a student council meeting.
Two scholarships were offered to university women by the Kent Ravenna branch of the American Association of University Women. One funds study at the University of Paris and the other at the University of Mexico. Applications, judged on intelligence, responsibility, talent and general knowledge, are due by April 1.
Dr. George R. Bach director of student vocational guidance at the university will leave Thursday for a New York Academy of Sciences psychology meeting where he is a member. He will seek a publisher for his forthcoming book Psychology applied to Medical Practice with Miss Nellie Young as co author.
Journalism majors at the annual photography short course March 20 23 may work off fees for both the beginners course opening 9 am March 19 and the regular short course by assisting the journalism staff. Acting head A A Crowell urged enrollment at the journalism office now even if payment is deferred to registration day March 20.
Janet Irons announces June graduating class announcements must be ordered by February 27. A hall table will take orders and collect dues, to be paid when announcements are ordered.
The Independent Students Association explains its stance after backing the Coalition party’s Miss Kent State candidate with the understanding the Coalition would support ISA’s own pick Miss Shutrump for most popular woman. Kinney and Sullivan, both liberal arts students, hold Kappa Phi Beta pledges and Kappa Mu Kappa pledges respectively, with Sullivan chairing petitions and managing Hulbert house.
Nine Ohio colleges will participate in the Ohio intercollegiate band festival to be staged here April 27 and 28. Raymond Dvorak, University of Wisconsin band director, will lead selected players from Kent Capitol Ohio Wesleyan Wittenberg Miami Youngstown Bowling Green Otterbein and Oberlin colleges in a 120 piece band concert on the festival's second day. The music department offers two baritones a piccolo oboe bassoon clarinet French horn trombone and tuba for students who can play and are interested in band music. Rehearsals are Tuesday and Thursday at 4 pm in Room 309 Merrill hall beginning soon.
