The Inter-Fraternity Council rejected Chi Alpha's petition for local fraternity status after a three fourths vote. The club had completed probation and submitted the petition to the Policy committee which approved it before the IFC meeting. A joint investigation may allow another submission.
All students who have not taken algebra and plan to take college or commercial algebra must take an algebra placement test. The test is at 3 p.m. January 7 in 317 McGilvrey. Winter term math 120 students may move to a higher course if justified by the test.
The last mid week hop of the fall quarter is tonight in the Union ballroom from 8 to 10. Music provided by records. The first hop of the winter quarter is scheduled for Wednesday January 2 in Wills gym.
All University women intending to stay in Kent over the Christmas vacation must contact the Dean of Women's office before noon Friday to receive approval. The deadline was moved from December 19 to give the office more time to handle requests.
Stopher hall residents will host a Christmas party for 25 local children this Saturday from 1 30 to 4 30 p m. Students from three girls dormitories assist. Santa Claus portrayed by Richard Knuth of Fairport Harbor will give gifts. Steve Gittler is Stopher hall head resident.
The junior class under Pres. Lou Gerber will meet at 4 p.m. in 2020 Union to appoint committees and plan the year. Topics include the Junior-Senior prom, the Popularity ball, and the junior class picnic. Gerber urges each campus group to send a representative for strong attendance.
The Selective Service college qualification test will be given to 55 students Thursday in the University school. Students report at 8:30 a.m. The test begins at 9. Only students with admission cards may take the exam, which lasts three hours. Atty. Robert Cook of Kent serves as security assistant. Dr. Dwight Arnold, director of guidance testing, chairs the exam.
The 1951 52 Student Directory by Blue Key goes on sale Friday at the Booster booth. It lists names, addresses, and phone numbers of admins, faculty, students, dorms, houses, and offices. Ralph Ordie edits the directory with Jim Thomas as business manager and Bill Stacks on the cover.
A memorandum signed by Anna Rosenberg, assistant secretary of defense, assures deferment from the draft for all college students in ROTC units. About 129,500 ROTC members will fall under the deferment as ROTC is the Army's major officer source. Previously fewer ROTC men could be deferred and many were drafted.
Women must submit applications by December 19 to avoid confusion though final deadline is January 9 4 pm. Queen’s selection committee chair John Stahlman urges prompt entry. eliminations January 15 with finals January 17. Three queens to be chosen two lieutenants and one colonel receive bracelets certificates and invitations.
Noon today is the deadline for filing trial program cards at the Registrar's office. White cards and class tickets will be available Monday at 8 a.m. Fees are paid Monday and Tuesday in the Treasurer's office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to speed up January registration. Students without university IDs should have photos taken in the gym on Jan 2.
