Registrar E C Stopher announces winter quarter preregistration is underway with class schedules posted outside the registrar’s office. Students may register before Christmas by completing their registration and paying fees. seniors today, juniors Wednesday, sophomores Thursday, and freshmen Friday.
Emil Ludwig renowned biographer and author was forced to cancel his lecture set for January 17 due to a nervous breakdown. Ingrid Tornberg, chairman of the university assembly committee, reported the collapse in Switzerland and said plans are underway to arrange a substitute speaker for the date.
Dixie Grundy of Sigma Sigma Sigma wins Terese Green queen by two ballots in a 411 vote contest among eight organizations. She earns 82 votes to 80 for Donna Stouder and Rosemary DePalma, with other nominees receiving 43 to 24 votes.
Blue Key will induct eight and Cardinal Key between ten and fifteen new women at the national honoraries joint assembly Friday at 9 am. Elaine Chamberlin president of Cardinal Key outlines eligibility. Betty Brown assists. Raymond E Manchester dean of men speaks for Blue Key on origins and standards. George Insche president will introduce new members.
Piano and voice students will feature music by Mozart Beethoven Haydn Debussy and others at two student recitals this week. Programs begin at 3 p m Thursday and Friday Dec 13 and 14 in Room 312 Merrill hall according to Roy Metcalf head of the school of music. About 20 students are expected to participate in the two programs.
The student council approved a new election rules package to be added to the E-Book and a $243 fund for varsity athletics. The rules limit poster numbers and placements with clean regulation posters only. Barbara McDowell chairs the elections committee overseeing the changes.
The radio workshop will present The 6 30 Train as the next broadcast on Saturday at 11 45 am with Fred Baker as announcer. Cast includes Arlene Riggle Lee Shenefiel Dorothy Wolfe Virginia Black and Dave Ryan directed by Mrs Opal Wigner Boffo. The last two shows of the quarter will be poetry nights.
Professor Dewey F. Barich head of industrial arts will address the Elementary Education club on silversmithing. The lecture is Thursday December 13 at 7 p.m. in the training school music room.
The Golden Flashes lost 64 to 44 to Baldwin Wallace in Will s Gym last night. The game summary notes a strong Jackets effort and invites readers to the sports page for full details.
Patsy Pace and his Akron ten piece orchestra will perform at the New Year’s ball at Kent University. The semi formal dance runs 9 p m to midnight in Wills gymnasium and is hosted by the women’s league and men’s union. Terese Green Queen Dixie Grundy will be presented during intermission.
Student directories will be sold this week in the atrium. The books contain names and addresses of professors and students plus a social calendar of events. Results are not guaranteed.
Betty Flegal was appointed to oversee sending a basket to a needy Kent family as AWVS met Wednesday night. Members will work Tuesday in Dean Raymond Manchester’s office. Dorothy Watson, president, announced a state AWVS meeting on December 13 in the old Arcade building in Cleveland.
The Stater staff recounts a damp not fully snowy ride down a campus toboggan slide. Participants include Norma Knisely Carl Austin Jean Goncher Madge Kime Bob Lehnert and visiting student Bill Keene with Thrills Chills Spills. They warn against riding front and note safety barriers and dorms offering toboggans.
