Seven students remained in the infirmary and 24 were sent home since Nov 30 with influenza, per university health director Dr A O DeWeese. Infirmary patients include Don Crotty Marjorie Lowash Charmain Beach Gordon Knisely Dorothy Chamberlin Rebecca Taylor Virginia White. Also listed were three more on the sick list.
The university health director Dr A O DeWeese says any student missing a full day of class must see the dispensary to prevent further influenza spread. Faculty cited include Mrs Virginia Harvey Bertha Whitton and Caro Carpetyan in the health department measure.
The second sophomore class meeting will be held tonight at 7 in Room 214 Kent Hall and will adjourn for social dancing. President Clarence Tonka notes low attendance at the first meeting allowed a small minority to decide on matters and events. All sophomores are urged to attend.
One hundred thirty two students had voted for Terese Green queen by yesterday afternoon. Deadline for balloting is Friday at 9 p m Voting has been in progress at the Green shop Willow and E Main sts since last Friday Any student may cast his ballot upon presentation of his activity card for the fall quarter. Winner receives a dozen roses from Mrs Green and the sponsoring organization gets 5 dollars. A picture of the queen will appear in the florist advertisement in the 1946 Chestnut Burr. The contest was last held in 1943.
Blue Key will discuss plans to tap new members at a 4 p m meeting in Room 108 Kent Hall today. President George Inscho announced the agenda for the men's national service honorary group.
K Vets propose a convention for veterans attending Ohio colleges and universities. John Fouser says the state veterans commission can aid veterans and accept convention suggestions. Topics include housing for married and single veterans, subsistence for veterans with children, loan rules, and surplus government property for transportation use. Further action deferred until more schools show interest.
President John Jack announces the first junior class meeting of the year at 4 p m in Room 210 Kent Hall. Dues and the Popularity Ball will be discussed.
In a staged crime, Dr. George R. Bach and 11 student investigators simulated a lie detector test with free association to detect guilt. Three participants acted as officers and suspects, with one student ultimately shown to feel guilt through timed word associations. The exercise aims to illustrate detection methods in a university setting.
The university will offer seven aeronautics courses starting January led by Andrew Paton. Courses cover theory flight and mechanic training with GI Bill eligibility and reduced rates via the university owned airport at Stow. Akron Airways will subcontract flight instruction while supervision remains with the university. Three mechanic courses await completion of a new industrial arts building.
Lambda Phi members will sell student directories in the university atrium next week. The 25 cent booklets list every student with home addresses and phone numbers, plus faculty names and offices, and include a calendar for future events.
Chairman Dona Mae Burkhardt announced two cases will be presented to student court at a meeting today. Members of the court will be notified of the time and place via the mail boxes.
See Games Free Faculty members and wives or husbands, as the case may be, will be admitted free of charge to all athletic contests and other university functions which the student attends with his activity ticket, according to a motion passed by student council Monday.
Eleanor Hruby, director of dining halls, announced renovations in Lowry hall west dining room to install asphalt flooring and a new cafeteria counter for the unused eating place. The upgrade will switch to all electric units with a hot plate warmer and a steam chef to boost kitchen efficiency. Two hundred students can be served once materials and labor are available, with evening table service shelved for now. Ms Hruby is taking student applications to staff the dining hall during winter quarter.
