Lisa Sergio, half American news broadcaster and vocal critic of Fascism, will discuss a world view of ourselves at 8:15 p.m. in the auditorium. Her prewar career and exile from Mussolini regime shaped her later U S radio commentary on world affairs.
A view shows the new men's dormitory under construction behind South hall. Workers lay bricks and furniture is ordered. Completion is planned for March 1949 with opening in the fall, housing 275 students and easing Kent's housing shortage.
UT theater plans list five productions in the university auditorium. The opening show is The Return of Peter Grimm directed by G Harry Wright with tryouts in October. Other works include The Royal Family by Michigan college students Oct 8 and a freshmen play Dec 2, 8, 4 with further dates in January March and May under Holm and Wright’s staff.
The first annual Kent State University Industrial Editors institute will run October 7 and 8 at the Carter hotel in Cleveland. K. C. Pratt of Stet will direct and speak, with editors from across the country attending. Twenty scholarships let journalism students attend free. contact Alfred Crowell for details. Speakers include Kenneth Butler and John A. Jones, plus Ohio congresswoman Frances Bolton.
Forty five KSU students complete a six week basic infantry course at Fort George G. Meade Maryland returning home after representing the university among about fifty institutions including Akron Wilberforce and Ohio universities The cadre also trained at A P Hill in Virginia during the program.
Bill Franklin of the Franklin School of Dance offers an all girl dancing line for the Stadium benefit variety show. University students with singing dancing or other talents urged to contact Curt Sarff. Tryouts set for next Wednesday Aug 18 at 7 pm in 119K. Jim McLean will direct. nine acts have applied. The Summer Session Stadium committee meets at 3 pm in the school of Journalism office.
Seniors will gather in the university auditorium Thursday at 1 pm. Dr. Chapman, grandmaster of the graduating class, will explain graduation exercises and address questions about commencement and the baccalaureate services slated for September 5.
The Walden String Quartet now in residence at the University of Illinois will perform in the auditorium Monday August 16 at 8 15 p m Their program covers important chamber works from the last centuries and includes more than 60 new pieces They have presented chamber music on NBC networks in a season since 1934, including NBC Music Guild programs.
Tickets for the Town Hall Players production Autumn Crocus may be reserved at the Booster booth table tomorrow and on Thursday Friday or Monday between 11 a.m. and 12 noon or 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. The play is set for August 23 and 24 in the university auditorium with all seats reserved.
The United Christian Fellowship announces a county wide civil rights effort to end racial bans on public beaches. A survey of county beaches shows a near total lack of accessible facilities for mixed denominations. The group secured Stewart Lake privately for a mixed outing on Sunday August 8 and aims to promote a field house and other non segregated recreation.
The psychology clinic will operate during the second summer session from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday. Dr. Charles N. Winslow, the clinic director, announced the schedule. Testing and counseling in vocational, educational, and personal adjustment fields are available to all university students.
