The county school committee ordered a June 24 referendum on dissolving the Wilmot district created May 25, 1949. B 25 Bomber Crash Kills Nine in West Virginia
A B 25 bomber crashed into a rugged Monogahela forest knob in Elkins West Virginia killing nine air force men. Olmsted air base officials identified the craft as the one that vanished after stopping in Harrisburg Pennsylvania on a flight from Philadelphia to Omaha. Eight bodies were recovered and the ninth was sighted by a search party. One victim was from Hamilton Field California and the others from Hill AFB Utah.

Mystery Cloud Over Pacific Might Last A Week
A vast mystery cloud blanketed 1 200 000 square miles of the Pacific. Meteorologist R H Simpson said it could persist a day or a week. At Wake Island the cloud rose to 16 000 feet and near Hawaii a 7 000 foot ceiling was recorded. Possible causes include wind blown desert sands, an eruption near New Guinea, or an atomic explosion with ion concentration. The Eninwetok proving grounds lie about 600 miles southwest of Wake.
