City engineers completed a 14 month project to fill the historic Anderson Park lagoon with ashes and non burnable material. A water channel remained during filling to carry Jerome creek watershed flow to the storm sewer inlet at the old dam. The site, once a brick clay source and later an ice supply for a nearby ice house, served local youths for skating and swimming before odor and mosquito problems prompted abandonment. Nearby dirt from paving and future work to grade and surface the area were noted along with shifting ash dumping to a gulley on 26th Ave north of 46th St.

Four Hurt in Head-On Crash on Highway 42
Sheriff deputies reported four seriously injured in a head-on collision two miles south of the city on Highway 42 at 1:27 a.m. Mrs. Esther Erickson 50 drove with an after-hours permit and tried to turn into a driveway in front of Roy Williams 20. Williams suffered critical head injuries. Gwendolyn Weyant 27 and Louis Nelson 27 had scalp and leg injuries. Deputies transported victims to Kenosha hospital as onlookers hampered aid and a box of flares and a flashlight were reported stolen from squad cars.

Final Rites Set For War Veteran Schumacher
