Reports from a Budapest source say rebel bands harass Soviet troops from Mecsek mountain hideouts near Pecs, with fighting around the mining center and communication cut off. The informant claims 1,500 rebels persist, while a push to wipe out students in Satoraljahly region is noted.
About 75 Serbian organizers picketed a Yugoslav State Ballet performance at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee accusing the dancers of Communism. They distributed Croatian and Serbian flyers to roughly 1,100 attendees and claimed ties to Tito. The troupe’s manager noted prior pickets and claimed the demonstrators were former Nazi collaborators.

A two million dollar general alarm fire destroyed St John the Evangelist church in Cambridge. A separate two alarm blaze damaged a Greek Orthodox church earlier. Officials called both fires suspicious and State Fire Marshal Albert Falkland opened an immediate investigation. A 16 year old boy who discovered the St John fire was taken to police headquarters for questioning.
A petition signed by 60 students in the Marquette University union led to the removal of Elvis Presley from the union grill juke box. The action ended the last Presley platter on campus.
