The Nineteenth Annual Session of the National Negro Business League will be held in Atlantic City New Jersey August 21 23 24 2018. Scott of St. Louis won first prize in the Hattie Elizabeth Lewis Applied Christianity contest at the University of Kansas. His subject was The Christian Nations and The Hague. He is nephew of Mrs. H. Hundreds Flee After Police Shooting Riots in East St Louis
Following the shooting of Officer Anthony Kinne, hundreds of Colored citizens fled East St Louis fearing a repeat of last year's riots. A suspect named Mayne, accused of the shooting, was pursued by a mob, beaten, and then turned over to police. Kinne had attempted to arrest Mayne for counterfeiting.

National Race Congress to Seek McAdoo Action on Jim Crow
The Executive Committee of the National Race Congress prepared a petition urging Director General McAdoo to suspend Jim Crow laws as a war measure and will present it upon his return to the city. A large Anti Lynching Session is planned for October 1, 1918, led by Rev. H J Callis with invitations to churches societies labor groups and other Race affiliations to delegations. Wheatley Provident Hospital Appeal Receives Notable Subscriptions
The Wheatley Provident Hospital Campaign Fund reports payments have come in well since the last notice though several pledges remain unpaid. The Phyllis Wheatley Art Club donated a $50 Liberty Bond, despite the president Mrs. Francis Howerd losing and recovering it with a reward. Others paying in full include H.R. Sweeney, C. C.
