Prof R G Jackson, music instructor and noted pipe organist at Western University, was struck by a canvas center pole during platform setup for commencement exercises. He was unconscious over two hours, feared skull fracture ruled out after exam, then led the musical program in a striking show of loyalty to his school.
Dr. O A Taylor of Stormont hospital is recovering and due to leave soon. He obtained an absolute divorce from Mrs Ida Taylor, justified by jealousy affecting his practice. Judge Dana praised both parties, noting Taylor is a first rate citizen and an ideal husband while cautioning about jealousy. Property division to follow once lawyers confer.
Lincoln High School in Sunday June 3 plans an Ebenezer AME Church sermon by Rev. W C Williams with a school march including Cadet Band uniformed cadets girls teachers and graduates. June 4 senior play June 5 J W Perry oratorical prize June 6 Alumni Entertainment June 7 General Reunion and June 8 commencement in Convention Hall. Public invited.
The Harmony Literary and Art Club won second prize at the State Federation of Colored Women's Club meeting in Sedalia Missouri on May 25 and 26. The winning work was an embroidered butterfly on a serving tray by Mrs. Annie E. Gaines.
The Clippers Club reports gross receipts for November 1 and lists disbursements to Y W C A Orphans Homes Douglass Hospital Phyllis Wheatley Hospital and a charity fund. A Christmas basket event for poor families raised modest sums with prizes won by Miss Edna Hill and Miss Ruth Bradley.
The 21st annual commencement at Western University Quin daro Kansas began May 22 with a blind concert and ended May 31 with the exercises. The state board met and raised salaries for staff while the university board approved raises. Notable attendees included Bishop H H Parks and Rev J F Taylor among others. The program featured orations, music, diplomas, and prizes. The valedictory by Lillian H Lewis was praised as the best yet in the university’s history.

Bethel A M E Church at Mth and Flora avenues led by Pastor Rev F D Wells holds its third quarterly meeting on Sunday June 3 with Rev J W Griffin from Flist A M E Church Kansas City Kan preaching the sacramental sermon at 3 pm. All invited. Mrs Julia A Smith died Monday May 28 at 815 am at her daughter’s home Mrs A V Minor Kout soulas after months of illness. Born Richmond Virginia 1834 she left six children two daughters and four sons and seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral Thursday at 2 pm from granddaughter Mrs J A Jones home with Rev J C Owens officiating.
All graduates of Lincoln High School are requested to be at the High School at 11 o'clock Sunday to accompany the school to Ebenezer Church.
Al Rogers a famous Western sportsman, known as Diamond Al, was shot through the stomach by Sand Henderson, a waitress at his Little Jefferson cafe on West Supply Street. Henderson fired after Rogers reportedly threatened her. Rogers lies critically injured and may not recover. his nephew handles business amid fresh court action involving a separate shooting by Rogers’s nephew.
The superintendent of the Colored Division of the City Hospital, noted for achieving remarkable results, presided over a ceremony Friday night at the YMCA Auditorium where four exemplary nurses were graduated.

Dr John C Hopkins who is the citys only race alderman in Wilmington Delaware was re elected for the sixth ward and serves as manager of the National theater and owns a leading drug store in the city.
A summer camp for sick babies will operate in July and August under the Senior B. P. U. of the Second Baptist Church. A trained nurse will be on site at all times to care for children. More details will appear in the Sun. E. Ross, Chairman.
