National conference of colored editors in Washington on war effort
Emmett J. Scott presided as War Department and Public Information officials convened thirty or forty leaders of major colored newspapers and thinkers in Washington to unify national Black support for World War I. The June 19–21 meeting opened in the Interior Building with frank discussion, unity, and pledges to mobilize the 12,000,000 Black citizens for victory and democracy.

Captain Rowan of Mississippi, stationed with the depot brigade at Camp Pike, has been dismissed from the army after a court martial for refusing to obey an order that would have consolidated white and Negro selectives.
