Special to The Kansas City Sun reports President Wilson pleased with the conference of Colored editors and leaders in Washington. The President commends the press for unity and patriotism, noting grave issues and the role of 12,000,000 Negroes in winning the war for democracy.
The American Red Cross calls for immediate registration of Colored graduate nurses, but demand exceeds supply. A second call targets women ages 18 to 45 for first aid training. Kansas City Hospital offers a free course for Colored women to prepare for foreign and home service with tuition free. Registration dates August 12, 19 and 14 at City Hospital, 9:00 to 4:00. San Antonio Ex press publishers plan a $100000 five year fund to combat lynching and mob violence across the continental United States. Rewards of 100 for white victims and 1000 for Black victims are offered to those arresting and convicting those responsible, including officials and citizens. The report also covers Dr Beiler a Kansas City physician moving to Detroit and church notices from Hannibal Mo about the A M E connection and Rev Beal.
The Sun announces Dr L Bailer a leading Kansas City physician for ten years is moving to Detroit Michigan. He served on Kansas City General Hospital and Wheatley Provident Hospital staffs and taught at their training schools. He helped build the 106000 dollar M C A building and led fundraising efforts. He chaired the Public Health and Housing Committee of the Kansas City Civic League and was president of the Kansas City Medical Society in 1916. The Sun extends best wishes to him and Detroit welcomes his arrival.
The Grand Master, Wardens and executive officers of the Grand Lodge of Masons of Missouri and the Grand High Priest and officers of the Royal Arch Chapter held brief sessions in the city Thursday and Friday to audit books and pass on claims. Attending were Grandmaster W. W. Fields, Senior Warden, Grand Lodge officers, and other officials from Missouri and nearby states.
The Observer condemns demeaning terms used for our race and urges all readers to stop calling fellow Black people racial slurs. It argues for consistency and dignity as American citizens, warning against hypocrisy in self-derogatory language.

Eugene Edward Vaughan age 26 advertising manager real estate dealer and Boy Scout master drowned at Bonner Springs while with a Boy Scouts detachment. After three hours the body was recovered despite life-saving efforts. Vaughan was a respected Kansas City figure with family ties to Western University and St John’s Church. Funeral held at Allen Chapel with Scout and Masonic processions. His life noted as devoted to public service and community uplift.
Lieut Russell Smith has been detailed as commanding officer of the Washington Student Army Training Camp at Howard University. A Covington, Virginia native, he served thirteen years with the ith United States Cavalry and saw action in the Philippines and Mexico. He trained at Fort Des Moines and served at Camp Dix with the 153d Depot Brigade and a field artillery unit. The Howard camp trains 300 representatives from colored colleges for forty seven days in military science, creating a student army corps to aid national defense.
